An XML sitemap is a file that lists the pages of your website so search engines like Google can find and crawl them faster.
How do I add the sitemap to my website?
Upload sitemap.xml to the root folder of your site (e.g. public_html) so it opens at yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, then submit that URL in Google Search Console → Sitemaps.
Why are some pages missing?
Pages blocked by robots.txt, marked noindex, redirected, broken (404) or pointing to another canonical URL are left out on purpose — Google would not index them anyway.
How many pages can I crawl?
Up to 500 pages per crawl. For bigger sites, use a sitemap plugin or your CMS’s built-in sitemap.
Do priority and changefreq matter?
Google says it ignores them, but other search engines may use them. lastmod is the most useful value when it is accurate.
