Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the Cron Expression Generator.
Back to the toolWhat is a cron expression?
A cron expression is five fields — minute, hour, day of month, month and day of week — that tell a server when to run a task.
What does */5 * * * * mean?
It means “every 5 minutes”. The */n syntax means every n units.
How do I run Laravel’s scheduler on shared hosting?
Add a cron job that runs every minute: * * * * * cd /path-to-project && php artisan schedule:run >> /dev/null 2>&1. In Hostinger or cPanel, use the “Cron Jobs” section.
What timezone does cron use?
Cron uses the server’s timezone. The next-run preview uses your browser’s timezone, so check your server setting if they differ.
What happens if both day of month and day of week are set?
Standard cron runs the job when either field matches. The preview follows this rule.
