Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about the URL Encoder / Decoder.
Back to the toolWhat is URL encoding?
URL encoding (percent-encoding) replaces unsafe characters with % followed by two hex digits. For example, a space becomes %20.
Component vs full URL — which should I use?
Use component mode for a single value such as a query parameter. Full-URL mode keeps characters like : / ? & = so the URL still works.
Why is a space sometimes + and sometimes %20?
HTML forms encode spaces as +, while URLs use %20. The decoder can treat + as a space for form data.
What is double encoding?
When already-encoded text is encoded again, % becomes %25 (e.g. %2520). Use “decode fully” to repeat decoding until it is clean.
Can I edit query parameters?
Yes. Paste a URL in the parser, edit the keys and values in the table and copy the rebuilt URL.
