SSL (HTTPS) encrypts data between visitors and your website. Browsers mark sites without valid SSL as “Not secure”, and Google uses HTTPS as a ranking signal.
What happens when an SSL certificate expires?
Visitors see a full-screen security warning and most will leave. Renew certificates before they expire — free Let’s Encrypt certificates renew every 90 days.
What does “chain incomplete” mean?
The server is not sending the intermediate certificate. Some browsers and apps will then not trust the site. Install the full chain (fullchain.pem) on the server.
Which TLS version should my server use?
TLS 1.3 and TLS 1.2. Older versions (TLS 1.0/1.1) are insecure and disabled in modern browsers.
